Over the last 15 years, Semaglutide has been used to treat type 2 diabetes, but has recently been approved by the FDA to help manage weight loss in obese or overweight adults and is now in use at the Center for Nutrition.
About Semaglutide with L-Carnitine:
How Does Semaglutide with L-Carnitine Work?
Semaglutide is the generic name for Wegovy (for weight loss) and Ozempic (for type 2 diabetes) and may be prescribed for weight loss or type 2 diabetes. L-Carnitine is a natural component of meat and dairy protein that moves fat molecules from the blood to the inside of cells (to mitochondria) where fat is turned in to energy.
Semaglutide is an appetite suppressant that mimics an intestinal hormone called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). GLP-1 plays a role in digestion and appetite regulation, causing you to feel full so that you eat less.
After eating, semaglutide also stimulates your pancreas to release insulin and reduces the production of glucose in the liver, lowering blood glucose. It also slows down food leaving your stomach (gastric emptying), so you feel full longer.
Semaglutide is used weekly since it continues to work in your body for several days. It is not a stimulant. Semaglutide is effective for weight loss and reducing elevated blood glucose. It can be taken in combination with other weight loss medications.
Is Semaglutide Effective for Weight Loss?
Those on Semaglutide lost ~ 15% of their body weight (33 lbs), on average, in 68 weeks, compared with 2.4% for placebo. Combined with other treatments and exercise, weight loss may be faster and up to 30% of body weight or more.
More than 1/3 of the participants lost more than 20% of their body weight. Diabetes and pre-diabetes improved in many. Semaglutide has been shown to be effective for over 68 weeks.
Patients in our clinic who are using Semaglutide are losing weight with even greater success than previous treatment plans. When combined with our other weight loss treatments and strategies, weight loss has been remarkable for most, however individual results vary, and are the result of many factors.
Is Semaglutide Safe?
Semaglutide has been approved by the FDA after a thorough evaluation of safety and effectiveness. NOTE: Do not take if you have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2. Caution is recommended in those who have had pancreatitis.
