Optimum Weight and Metabolic Health in the Corporate Environment
We live in a very challenging environment that seems to pull us in the wrong direction when it comes to maintaining excellent health.
At The Center for Nutrition, our passion is problem solving with individuals and helping them to achieving and maintaining optimum weight and health. That journey is filled with challenges, but overcoming those challenges, with personal care, encouragement, and strategies is our primary goal and focus.
We have been serving patients in weight and health management since 1996. Attaining measurable outcomes of improved health has been very satisfying, especially since nutrition with weight control can often achieve benefits as powerful as prescriptions. This involves far more than simply body weight reduction. Although weight is important, proper nutrition can improve multiple health parameters, such as blood pressure, glucose, and lipids.
If your organization has needs that could be addressed with our Corporate Wellness Program, we would be interested in collaborating with you on addressing those needs. Please contact us for more information.

Optimum Weight and Metabolic Health in the Corporate Environment
By Rick Tague, M.D., M.P.H. & T.M.
Achieving and maintaining health in today’s corporate environment requires addressing the common chronic diseases of our culture, including overweight tendencies. As an example, modern lifestyles (including almost all progressive careers) are most consistent with being predominantly sedentary throughout the work day. Our modern food environment sabotages many in the pursuit of health. These realities are associated with modern diseases and can result in decreased function both on and off the work site.
Nutrition (and generally everything going in to our bodies) is the primary driving force for health. Approximately 70% of cancers, for example, are the direct result of poor nutrition, overweight, smoking and/or alcohol. Almost every common chronic disease in the U.S. is caused by or aggravated by poor nutrition. On the other side of the equation, an even greater number of diseases can be positively impacted by proper nutrition. The list includes many cancers, heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, and, of course, overweight and obesity. These diseases, their treatments, and the associated symptoms have a tremendous impact on both the quality of life and the cost of health care for affected individuals.
The American Family Physician Journal reported that medical spending was $1,429 (42%) higher in 2006 per person per year for obese individuals compared to those who are normal weight. Managing overweight problems effectively is not only economically sensible, but prudent to enhance quality of life and productivity and to control soaring medical expenses.
Since nutrition is the primary driving force for improved health, disease prevention and weight control, tools and strategies to modify nutritional intake are mandatory. There really is no other option.
I believe these challenges are best addressed with individualized assessments of the current realities existing for each person. What nutritionally impacted diseases and conditions exist among the work force? Are individuals motivated to embrace a path to improved health? Are there tangible employer-driven motivators for employees to pursue optimum health?
Since individuals who are successful in other areas of life tend to be most successful in positive lifestyle changes, can those same goal-oriented individuals be encouraged to participate in an effective weight loss and nutrition program?
This approach, with collaboration between corporate leaders, employees, and our team, we believe, is the wise and sensible approach to delivering a program that has the greatest chance of achieving the tangible, measurable outcomes of medical cost savings and improved health. And, of course, quality of life improvements will follow.
If this approach to wellness, with a primary emphasis on nutrition and weight management is attractive and consistent with corporate goals, then learning more about our program is the place to start. When we begin, we will customize individualized programs that focus on personalized plans designed for health benefits that are both measurable and medically significant.
Our mission at Tague Nutrition, is “Achieving optimum health through weight control and excellent nutrition.” This mission is accomplished with individuals who are motivated to pursue optimum health. We historically have worked only with motivated individuals. Others would be offered services when they also are so motivated.
Cost sharing between businesses and their employees is most appropriate, as this model gives an investment mindset toward getting the maximum benefit from all the tools and strategies that are offered from all parties.
Since our approaches are individualized, “mass meetings” are not recommended. We have found that personalized treatment, using all necessary tools and strategies, is the most cost effective approach. Nutrition is powerful, effective, and a driving force for health. We would love to assist you and your team in the pursuit of Optimum Health.
